A Week of Box Rest

Unfortunately, Louie came in with a rather large front offside knee last Thursday, with fluid and swelling all around the joint, lame and a cut on the inside of it.

From Thursday to Sunday...
Off to the vets we headed... & after a full assessment, Louie was given strong antibiotics, anti inflammatory and pain killer, and order on box rest over the weekend.

The swelling did reduce considerably over the weekend & no lameness was shown after Thursday, but with such a cut on the bony structure, a few more days on box rest was ordered.

Louie clearly wasn't impressed, but thoroughly enjoyed his time out grazing and walking out with a few bucks and broncs on the end of the lead rope.

Good progress on the knee on Wednesday with only localised swelling around the cut and some fluid still on the front of the knee, so Thursday he was able to go into a small paddock for graze and to mooch around.

The knee on Wednesday night

Louie had other ideas, but was clearly pleased to be back out!

This morning, the knee was just the same, with no swelling, so fingers crossed we'll be back to normal over the weekend.
