Louie's first EVER cross country

After taking Louie in the school twice after coming home from Spain, I decided it was time to start Louie's cross country training - he's never been cross country at all or seen solid rustic fences.

With a horse just in from a holiday, I wasn't sure how well things would - Louie's freshness can result in him becoming very suspicious of new things, so I went with the aim of very simply waking through the water, going up & down a bank, and jumping a ditch.

I needn't have worried about Louie at all... He took it all in his stride, having a look at things, but giving everything a go. We achieved all three of what we had set out very quickly, so I moved onto some basic logs, then pallisades and small houses, as well a pheasant feeder and other small fences. Louie even tried a small trakehner, giving it a good look over before jumping it!!

We finished off by stringing a few fences together - over a simple log, through the water, out up a bank and over a log. In the clip below, it was Louie's first time up the bank out of the water.

We spent just over an hour playing over the various fences, with Louie's ears pricked forward the whole time - he seemed to really enjoy it, pulling me into the fence by the end!

Hopefully we'll go do some more in August too!!
