November Round Up

Well, November seems to have passed us by in a heart beat, but unfortunately we've not really been out and about anywhere.

The month started with a very annoying abscess, which didn't want to burst anytime soon. It had a go through the coronet band, once, but didn't eject itself completely.... After a week of box rest, I got back onboard at the weekend and turned Louie back out in the field with the sole intention to use the movement and adrenaline to push it through. Two days later, he was back lame, but even with 5 days of poulticing, I drew nothing!! Grrrrrrr!! However, the lameness went away, and to today he has been totally sound again.

Great, let's crack on! Unfortunately not. Louie had been coughing, which I'd just put down to being in more and the change of season. But when I got back riding, he was coughing hard throughout. After a visit to the vets, he did in fact have a cough and was given a week of ABs, which helped massively.

He's all sorted now, so hopefully things don't come in three's and we'll be back to it!

So where's the time gone?

An Evening with Top Spec

Well, at the start of the month we attending a great feeding talk, presented by Top Spec and held at Hexham's Mole Country Store. I've used Top Spec Joint Balancer for a number of years, finding it gives good results, so I was keen to hear about their other products, as well as learning their view on feeding for the type of horse and level of exercise.

The talk was very informative, with a Q&A at the end and a 1-2-1 with a nutrionist if you needed afterwards. If there's one organised near you, with any feed company, they are worth attending I think.

Premier Equine's Black Friday Event

Louie also inherited a Premier Equine magnetic rug! For almost two years, I've thought about selling my 6'9 rug I had for Thomas. Before I finally listed it online, I thought I'd just see what it sat like on Louie - it fit like a glove!! I couldn't believe it - this little horse has gone from me needing to consider buying 6'3 rugs to fitting into a 6'9!!

When Black Friday came around, I took full advantage of this, and ordered Louie some more Premier Equine goodies!

Equestrian Blog of the Year 2016

Early November we also had the FANTASTIC news that we had won Equestrian Blog of the Year 2016, as voted for by friends, family, & our blog and Twitter audiences, as well as influence from the judges at Haynet and Mirror Me PR.

Global Herbs Sarc-Ex

I've been using this product for a few months, and have been very impressed with the result! I admit, I started using the product to almost prove it wouldn't work....how wrong I was, as Louie is now lump free!! Find out how I was turned from sceptic to confirmed believer in our Global Herbs post.

November Noses & #NoStirrupsNovember

We've not really given this a go with so much time out of the saddle in November, but have spotted a lot of great photos on cute November Noses on Instagram, & hopefully no-one is too sore after working on #NoStirrupsNovember!!

Getting back to routine

Since being back onboard, we've been enjoying taking advantage of the light at the weekends to hack out & about, as well as working on the flat during the week. Field management as now kicked in with the horses kept in Tuesday's & Thursday's, so I've started riding before work and mucking out, so all that's needed on an evening is a quick skip out. It does mean a bit of an early start at 5am, and a rush to work for 9am, but means that the evenings are a bit less manic!
Snoozy after an early morning work out!

Enjoying a hack on a weekend
