A Positive Spin on the Autumn Equinox

Today marks the Autumn Equinox, which you're all probably more than aware of!

So why am I blogging about it? Well, I think one thing that all equestrians have in common is the dreaded 'w' word, as well as the mornings & evenings getting darker.

It's only last week that Louie & I were enjoying hacks out until 7.30/8pm, and that it was light enough at 6.20am to take him up to the field. This week, I'm struggling to fit an hours hack in on an evening and Louie is waiting to out on a morning until after I've mucked out.

But don't get too depressed about those cold, dark nights drawing in! Instead, look at it this way!

The Autumn Equinox marks the half way point between the longest and shortest days of the year. So if I'm still able to school in the light, and get a very quick hack in on an evening, and we're already half way to the worst point... It won't be long before the days are getting longer and the nights lighter again!!!

I know most of you will think I'm mad, but I HATE the 'w' word, but worst of all is I hate getting bogged down in all the chatter about how dark and cold it is. Keep yourself going and it will soon be light and warm again (well, warm is debatable!)

And don't forget, Autumn is a beautiful season to enjoy - with the oranges, yellows & reds of the falling leaves, as well as stunning sunsets and sunrises!

  2. The countdown is such a cute idea and I love your optimism! I think I'm a bit weird because I love riding in winter. Most of the lesson kids disappear and the barn is beautifully peaceful and quiet. I'm not a huge fan of the cold though, but Delight wakes up a bit and becomes more forward.
