October Round Up

Where to start with summarising October!?

Well... The month started with a fantastic day out at a local dressage competition. Louie is a cheeky chappy, so just going and having a relaxing day was all we were aiming for. We got so much more and came home with a rosette for 2nd place in a huge class of 21!

Read all about it in our previous post: Louie Pulls It Out The Bag!!

Mid October, we had a good (but challenging) lesson with Cathy Burrell. We decided to pick back up on the canter work...Louie had other ideas and clearly thought it was far to much like hardwork, throwing caution to the wind and bucking his way round for the next 10 minutes! After that, he settled into a nice canter, albeit a bit tense.

Unfortunately, our month was cut a bit short, due to an unlucky kick in the field, right on Louie's little knobbly knee!! Louie was on box rest for a week, which to be very fair to him, he was very well behaved, but clearly looked forward to his hand grazing & daily in-hand work in the arena. Thankfully after a week, he was back in a small paddock for a couple of hours before joining his gang a few days later!

This field injury did mean that we missed our October showjumping lesson, which we were very excited about, as well as another local dressage competition... There's always next time!

October also saw Andrew install Horse Mats Plus rubber matting to the side of Louie's stable. When lively at feeding time, he was continuously taking the skin of his hocks by twisting against the wood! So far, so good and we'll see the solution in full in a few more weeks!

Andrew did a great job of installing Horse Mats Plus to the side of Louie's stable
On 24th October we also took time to remember all the fantastic memories that we had with Thomas to mark one year since losing him. It was a sad day, but also a day that brought smiles when we look at the exciting future ahead with Louie!

There's plenty coming up in November to keep us busy too... Louie will have his first clip, we've got a couple of jumping lessons scheduled, as well as flatwork, and no doubt we will be out and about at various local competitions, even if it's just to catch up with friends!
