2019 Goals

So, here we are in 2019...who'd have thought it. It only seems seconds since I was sitting thinking the same thing 12 months ago... But this year, I'm sitting what do I really want to achieve over the next 12 months? There's none of this "new year, new me" stuff, but I've got some big ambitions for both my blog and for Louie & I.

Let's start off with what I'd like to achieve with Louie.

We've re-affiliated to British Dressage for 2019, and have already got a couple of competitions in the diary, including the Winter Regionals at the end of February. I'd like to become established at Novice in our next few competitions with the ambition to move up to Elementary aiming to gain PetPlan Area Festival qualification.

From my seat (literally!), I want to improve the elasticity in my arms to give Louie a more flexible and stable contact to go into. I also have a tendency to put more weight down my right leg than left, which can effect Louie's straightness as well as the ability to bend correctly, so I'd like to become more even with my weight.

Our confidence is growing & growing, as neither of us seems particularly phased by a set of jumps around the 90cm mark, but we are still struggling on with more spooky things - planks, fillers and water trays. This is my sole ambition to overcome this year, while ensuring that it comes from Louie finding his confidence to go when I say everything is safe.

Fingers crossed we can get over this as it is now really starting to hold us back being able to go out and jump course, as well as pausing our ambitions to event. Louie's much more confident with cross country, but as it stands, I'm not sure we'd get to that phase!!

Fitness & Wellbeing

My bad back in October really showed me how much fitness I had lost now that I'm only mucking out two days a week, so I'd like to find time to go to the gym 2-3 times per week. If I can't manage that, I'm determined to start doing some home workout routines with the help of a few online fitness influencers. This should also help my ability in the saddle too.

But what about my ambitions and goals for my blog? I have plenty...

Social Following

Over the last 6 months, I've not really concentrated on trying to grow my followers on any platform, but in 2019, I've got some pretty big ambitions!

  • Instagram
I'd like to reach 1,500 followers, which is an average of +2 per day throughout the year so it's a tough goal to achieve. I'm also setting the challenge of achieving an average of 75 engagement per post across the year to make sure that we don't just grow our profile without carrying forward the engagement.
  • Facebook
We're just short of 500 likes on Facebook and I'm aiming for 1,000 by the end of 2019. my average reach per post is about 250-300, so I'm driving for this to increase to 500-750 by the end of the year also.
  • Twitter
With almost 1,700 followers, my aim is to reach 2,500 by the end of the year, but I'd like to generate more shared content too, and so I'm also going to set myself the very ambitious goal to see at least 25,000 impressions every month. Twitter used to be our only social platform a couple of years ago, and I used to frequently see these volumes, so I'm hoping we can return to those successes!

Blog Posts

I'm not putting a number on this, but I'm committing to posting more on my blog, particularly around our training progress at home, when hiring and during our coaching sessions with Cathy & Philippa. it should also go a long way to sharing our progress against our goals to you guys, our lovely readers!

Blog Traffic

In previous years, our traffic came solely from my efforts on Twitter. During 2019 I'm putting this strategy back on my agenda, but extending it to all of our social media platform. I'm also looking to improve our organic and direct traffic. I've already set up a few goals in my Google Analytics to measure two levels of how long users spend on site, and two levels of how many pages people view. The results are pleasing already, but I'm using these as a benchmark to increase on throughout the year.

I've worked with bloggers and brand over the last couple of years, but this year I'm putting this as a goal to increase, both with brands but more importantly with bloggers. Looking at ways to increase sharing of content and featuring of other bloggers for my own audiences to enjoy too! So keep your eyes peeled for initiatives that we undertake throughout the year.

Equestrian Bloggers Facebook Group

I've really let this group down in the last few months, and haven't given it much attention at all. In 2019, I'm giving it much more focus. I've started as I mean to go on, introducing new ideas and threads, asking the members for feedback, and all of January's threads are already scheduled! So if you're a fellow equestrian blogger & aren't joined to the group yet, give it a go!

As you can see, there is A LOT for me to be working on! I feel very refreshed setting strong & ambitious goals for the coming year. There is definitely something satisfying about writing them down and considering my plans to achieve each individual goal. I'll bring you some updates throughout the year to see how we're getting on against each one, as well as a round up at the end of the year!

What goals and ambitions have you got for 2019? Make sure you leave a comment below with yours not matter how big or small!

  1. Very impressive goals, especially the social following but if anyone can do it, it's you! Really loving the Equestrian Bloggers Facebook group again, thank you!

    1. Thanks Roosa - I'm really pleased that you're enjoying it again! There's a few big challenges in my 2019 goals, but with lots of hard work I believe that I can achieve them! X
